Geezers Nite Out - Springfield Tavern - 1575 Massillon Rd - Akron
On this nite we met at a site that we haven't visited for 8 or 9 years. It is now called the Springfield Tavern, but many years ago it was called the Station House.

The reason we came back when we did was that at a meeting at the Firehouse on November 11, 2015, Veteran's Day, Sandy happened to be there, and she stopped by to say hello. We found out that she was still behind the bar there, but that the name was changed to Springfield Tavern.
Also, it was Sandy's B-Day the following day on December 3rd. You can see other birth dates on our
B-DAYS Link.

A cafeteria worker at Goodyear, where at one time, most of the Geezers worked, originally suggested Station House as a place for us to try since she also tended bar there.. One thing that we wanted to do was to go to different establishments and give our opinion of what we thought of them on the website.

We tried the Station House, and that is where we met Sandy, one of the bartenders there. Sandy was a young, attractive young lady. For the first 3 or 4 years of the website's existence we had a Bartender of the Month (BOTM) of the meeting places where we met that particular month. We asked Sandy if she would like to be our BOTM for JULY 2006, and she obliged.
We also asked Tammy, the bartender who recommended the Station House to us to also be a BOTM. She was the BOTM for MAY 2006.  We had a great time at the Station House for a once a month visit for a couple of years.

We experienced a little bit of Deja Vu at The Tavern on this nite. .Back on June 17, 1994 O. J. Simpson, who was arrested for the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and a friend. Instead of turning himself in OJ took off with his buddy A. C. Cowling in a white Ford Bronco. The police chase of the Bronco was televised live on all major TV Networks. Most of the Geezers were still working at Goodyear at the time, and we weren't Geezers then either. (Almost) We were meeting after work, at the time at a club called El Charro's. We were all standing around the TV watching the chase unfold. You know the outcome.

On this nite we were glued to the TV's at The Tavern watching the chase and subsequent shoot out with the husband and wife who tragically killed 14 people in San Bernardino, CA.  You can see pictures of the tragic event, and the Geezers watching on our PHOTOS page. Also there are other pics posted from the night.

The place was pretty much the same except the pool table was gone, and it looked as if there were new tables and chairs in the dining area. Speaking of which, there was also a new menu, which most of us ordered from including our surprise guest, "Big Daddy" Dan Minier. He is now living in (That Place Up North) during the warmer months, and Florida during the Winter. He is also working part time for Goodyear where he retired from, and he was in town for that reason. He was staying in a Hotel so he ate Two Dinners at the Tavern just in case he became hungry in the middle of the night. He thought his food was great as did the Geezers.

It was good to see Sandy again, and I'm sure that we will be back sometime during the winter months.

Geezers Nite Out - Legends Sports Pub & Grille - Green
When we stop at Legends for our meetings, something unusual or different happens. On December 2, we were at the Springfield Tavern watching another police chase from L. A. on TV,, and one of our long lost Geezers "Big Daddy" showed up to surprise us.
Well, this week wasn't as dramatic to you, but to me it was amazing.

First of all, most of the regular Geezers were there as usual. Spike, and Fergie were among them. However, both of these guys will be leaving us soon for their winter home in Florida. These two will be gone by New Years Day. Spike is already down there as of this writing (12/23/05). So we will not be seeing them for most of the winter.

However, the bright spot for the evening was that my cousin Rick "Schultz" Cincurak stopped in to see the Geezers, who he knows, and to catch up with the happenings in our lives. He doesn't stop by that often, since he is usually working those Wednesdays at Raymond C Firestone Public Golf Course. He took this day off, and he is praying for snow. The course is still Open.It was good to see him.

This coming Wednesday, December 23, we will be meeting at Johnny J's in Springfield, OH.

Some of us will also be out for our Annual for Christmas Eve DAY get together on December 24. The time and place has not been determined at this writing. Check the SCHEDULE page for that info.

If we don't see any of you who are reading this article the Geezers want to wish you a very MERRY CHRISTMAS. (You too SWISH)

Geezers Nite Out - Johnny J's Pub & Grille - Springfield, OH
A funny thing happened at JJ's last Wednesday nite. I had a few things to do that day before I could be on my way there to meet Fergie. I had talked with him earlier in the day, and he said that he was going to be there at 4:30. Spike (Swisher) is already beginning his life as a Snowbird in Florida. During the warmer months they are both at GNO around the same time.

I didn't get there till until around 4:45 PM and Fergie was there sitting at an unusual; table that JJ's has that is attached to the bar. It was very crowded and there wasn't any seats together actually at the actual bar. We sat there together until R. B. arrived. There was a customer sitting at the bar behind us. He kept staring at us.
All of a sudden the bartender told us that this guy wanted to buy us a drink. So we unwittingly ordered a drink. Wrong move!

The drink buyer got up and came over and started talking to us since we told the bartender to thank him. The guy was a little erratic. We did not know him, and we had never said one word to him. He came over to us (Hugging R. B.from behind), and he kept repeating "I love you guys" incessantly. Needless to say we did not know what to think.

Fortunately the guy left after about 10 or 15 minutes. Whew! It never fails. Whenever we meet somewhere something different or unusual usually happens.

Billy Bob eventually showed up. S. B. was attending a family holiday dinner, and we found out later that Drumstir made a quick trip to New Orleans.

Most of us ate from JJ's fine Menu. They have Free Fries for anyone sitting at the bar, and on Wednesdays Half Price Appetizers. If you would order any two it is a filling meal.
And they also have $3 Martinis.

The next regular GNO will be held at a place called J. Dublin's Pour House behind Chapel Hill Mall, formerly known as Johnny Malloy's.  We will be there Wednesday, December 23, 2015
