Geezers Nite Out - The Galaxy Patio Party - Wadsworth
There was a little confusion as to where we were to meet last Wednesday nite at The Galaxy. It seems as though Spike checked the Schedule early in the week and he never checked back on Wednesday to confirm the meeting place. Unfortunately he was out at The Winking Lizard and the rest of us were at The Galaxy. Fortunately it is only about a 10 minute drive from one place to the other. The Schedule was on the website as it is now on Monday after we switched dates on Sunday, 8/31, between The Galaxy and Lizard.
However, sometimes our Entertainment Director, R. B., and I (Joebo)find it necessary to switch the dates he assigns to the meeting places that are voted in each month, and we don't have the time or find it necessary to send out an email via Geezersniteout@aol.com to all of the Geezers.
So in the future make sure that you check the Schedule on the Wednesday of the meeting if at all possible. You can also access it on your Smart Phone.
The bartenders for the evening out at the Patio Bar were Jerry, and Becca.
The weather at The Galaxy Patio was very pleasant for the 3rd of September. It was sunny and in the low 80's.
TK O'Grady from WKDD was there to do his thing before the band started at 8:00 PM.
The band was the Brittany Reilly Band. There were only three players. Brittany sang, and also played the bass guitar. There was a lead guitar (Fender Strat), and drums.
They played a mixture of folk and country, and they had a good sound.
Most of us ordered dinner from Galaxy's excellent Menu. Fergie had a Turkey Club sandwich. S. B. enjoyed his fav Buffalo Chicken Wrap. Drumstir just ordered the Sauerkraut Balls Special. I had a Shooting Star Burger with Extra Pickle.
Go to our PHOTOS page to see pics of the food, bartenders, and others from that nite.
As usual we did see the Galaxy Celebrity Look-A-Likes Sammy Hagar, and Harpo Marx.
Next Wednesday, September 10, we will be going to the Winking Lizard in Montrose (For sure).
We will also be celebrating three birthdays.
Geezers Nite Out - The Winking Lizard - Montrose
You could say that it was a "Blow Out", at The Lizard Wednesday evening. Last Wednesday was an unusual day. Late in the afternoon there were Sirens Blaring all over the Montrose area, and I'm sure in the entire Northeastern Ohio area. There were Tornado warnings throughout the area, and there was big time coverage on the local TV stations.
This was supposed to be a "Special" Geezers Nite Out. We were celebrating 3 birthdays, including mine. But do to the inclement weather and the Tornado warnings it scared some of the Geezers away.
R. B. had a good excuse for being late. It just happened to be one of the days that the part-timer was at Goodyear, due to the weather warnings, the tire company decided to issue a "lock down"! This was around the time when most of the employees were about to leave. But being the concerned employer that they are, Goodyear kept them there locked inside. That just added to the weirdness of this fateful day.
To top everything off, one of our fave bartenders at The Lizard, Mandy was not working on this nite.
However, the main participants in the celebration were there. R. B., Krisko, and I (Joebo) were. We were joined with Betty, and her friend, and Geezers Billy Bob, and The Forester. Both of them had a long way to come, and return home that evening.
The (New) Winking Lizard has been celebrating their 1 Year Anniversary all week long. They moved from their former location on Ghent Rd to a newly remodeled building. R. B. and I stopped in on Tuesday after he helped me to move a TV stand, and they had 20 Cent Wings, and $1 Tacos. On this nite the Special was a Half Slab of Ribs , and a Roasted 1/2 Chicken for $8.99. Most of us ate from their fine MENU.
We have discontinued the practice of buying B-Day cards, loaded with Ohio Lottery tickets inside for all of the Geezers. But most of the "original" Geezers still practice this ritual. There were birthdays cards going and coming on this evening. Some pics of them, and from the night can be found on our PHOTOS link.
R. B., Krisko, and I finished off the nite with a Birthday Toast of Kentucky Bourbon Ale courtesy of R. B. See the PHOTOS link for a pic
Next Wednesday, September 17, The Firehouse on Tallmadge Circle is scheduled.
Geezers Nite Out - Firehouse Grille & Pub - Tallmadge Circle
This Geezers Nite Out was different in the way that we all arrived at the Firehouse. During the Summer and Fall Geezers Spike, and Fergie usually are the earliest to arrive at the designated meeting areas. They arrive anytime between 4:30 and 5:00 PM.
During the Winter they travel down to their snowbird hideaways in Florida. With those two gone you would be lucky to find most of the Geezers arriving before 6:00 PM. I (Joebo) arrive at a time dependant upon the season.
However, on this Wednesday, 9/17, I had a 2:00 PM dentist appointment with a dentist on Tallmadge Ave not far from the Firehouse. Since I moved out to the west side of town, I decided to go there shortly after my appointment. I arrived at 3:30 PM. I let Spike know what I was doing, and he met me there around the same time. Fergie showed up around 4:30, his usual time. The others arrived around their usual time.
Fergie was not at the birthday party celebration last Wednesday (9/10) at The Winking Lizard for R. B. , Krisko, and I. When he arrived at the Firehouse he had a bag that contained two birthday cards, and eight golf balls. He gave both R. B., and I each a birthday card with a $10 instant Ohio Lottery Ticket in it, and four golf balls. They were "almost" new golf balls. Thanks Fergie.
Since Spike, Fergie and I arrived early we met the day bartender, Tracey. She left shortly after that, and was replaced by another Tracey, and Casey. Later on Shannon arrived. She was a taller version of her sister Casey with darker hair. And if that wasn't enough another bartender, Courtney came in. Courtney was one of the original bartenders at the old Firehouse location on Tallmadge Ave.
Most of us ordered dinner from the Firehouse MENU No matter what Firehouse location you go to they all feature their "famous" $1 Burger. And it is not a mini-burger by any means. Both Spike and Fergie enjoyed one. Fergie had Chili with his. S. B., and I both ordered the Broiled Chicken Tender Salad.
See pictures of some of the food, bartenders, and others on the PHOTOS gallery.
We did see a couple of Celebrity Look-A-Likes. S. B. thought that a guy across the bar from us who he thought looked like one of the original Harlem Globetrotters Meadowlark Lemon. And I thought they guy sitting next to him looked like actor Owen Wilson.
Next Wednesday, September 24, we will be back to one of our fave meeting places, Legends Sports Pub & Grille to see one of our fave bartenders, Tricia.
Geezers Nite Out - Legends Sports Pub & Grille- Green
As usual, The Geezers, had an unusual happening occur during our visit to Legends for our Wednesday meeting. More on that later.
When I (Joebo) arrived from Montrose at Legnds around 4:45 PM, Fergie was the only Geezer there at the bar where we usually sit. Shortly after that Spike (Swish) showed up followed by the Drumstir.
The rest of the Geezers including S. B., R. B., and Billy Bob filtered in later on.
As I said earlier there was a small misunderstanding when R. B. showed up with one of Legends' large Mugs (used for the Mug Club) in his hand and presented it to our bartender Tricia.
R. B. said that an acquaintance of his was at the bar earlier in the week, and gave R. B. a mug to bring in to verify that this acquaintance bought him a Membership of the Mug Club for his Birthday.
However, Tricia, being the experienced bartender that she is, wasn't buying it. The Manager came out with a list of members, and they couldn't find an entry for R. B. He finally called the acquaintance, and he actually came down to the bar, and straightened everything out with the Manager. Why does R. B. always have to find himself in compromising situations at Legends?
The rest of the night went as usual. The resident Celebrity Look-A-Like, Uncle Fester (Monty) came in. And we met an old friend of the Geezers, and former Goodyear employees, including KV (Kevin McManus). His name is John Crist. We haven't seen him for quite sometime.
For pictures from the nite,go to our PHOTOS Link.
Legends had a Food Special 1/2 Off appetizers on Wednesday along with their regular Happy Hour prices for beer and mixed drinks.. Most of the Geezers took advantage of that.
It was also our voting nite for the meeting places that we will attend for the month of October. We usually have a tie for a number of places due to the small number of Geezers in attendance at times, but this night there was not. Maybe there was a little ballot tampering going on there, but we will never know.
Next Wednesday, October 1, we are scheduled to be at the Firehouse on Tallmadge Circle.
